Thank You For a World So Sweet

This was a favorite dinner time prayer when I was a child. I had nearly forgotten about it, when a student mentioned the prayer as something their family often said. We now say it nightly at dinner. It is so lovely and simple in its message. A perfect prayer for children who don't need to be reminded of things that aren't always perfect.

If we look around at our food on the table, the roof over our heads, our loved ones who are here with us - the world is sweet. We should be thankful for all the sweetness that we have been given. Warm kitties, fuzzy dogs, laughter, sunshine, flowers, blue skies, gentle rain. Oceans and lakes and mountains. Stars in a night sky. A world so sweet. When we look at what is good, and beautiful and true, it takes our mind, if only for a few minutes at dinner, off the rest.

Thank you, Lord for a world so sweet.
