Bird Thoughts

Crows are the lawyers of the Bird World,

Smart, shrewd, clever.

Eagles are the generals,

Powerful, sharp eyed, sharp witted.

Parrots are the politicians,

Noisy, flashy, repetitive.

Hummingbirds are the dancers,

Sparkling, nimble, delicate, ephemeral.

But the humble quail

Not the brightest birds on the block

With their small heads and their

Loop-de-loops.

They are gentle and soft.

Protective parents of large families.

With longing calls and clucking

Contentedness.

Love seems to guide them

And cover them.

Maybe in the scheme of life

They have found what

Matters most.
